Jong-in Lee
Assistant Professor in College of PVFA at Texas A&M University
I am an assistant professor in the School of Visualization at the College of PVFA at Texas A&M University.
I am an Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and 3D User Interface researcher, focusing on developing novel interaction techniques for spatial interaction and streamlining interface design processes in immersive environments. I obtained my PhD in Interactive Arts and Technology from Simon Fraser University and holds a Master's degree in Culture Technology from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). I also earned Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Film, TV, and multimedia from Sung Kyun Kwan University in South Korea.
My research intersects the areas of HCI and Augmented/Virtual/Extended Reality (AR/VR/XR), aiming to elevate user experience in spatial computing environments. One of my specialties is in 3D navigation techniques that facilitate efficient and accurate control of locomotion and support wayfinding in multiscale virtual environments (MVEs). My past research efforts include developing automatic distance control methods for teleportation-based locomotion techniques to improve navigation accuracy and efficiency in MVEs, as well as designing viewpoint transition techniques to enhance a user's spatial awareness in MVEs with nested structures.
My research interest also extends to developing high fidelity prototyping tools for AR/VR/XR interface design. I focus on streamlining the desgin process of high-fidelity prototypes for AR/VR/XR interfaces, enabling designers to efficiently iterate and test their concepts in 3D and immersive environments. My work in this area aims to bridge the gap between traditional interface design workflows and the unique challenges of spatial computing, empowering designers to create more intuitive and effective XR experiences.
I am actively looking for members to join my research group at all levels, including Postdoctoral Fellows, Graduate Students for PhD and Master's degrees, and Undergraduate researchers. Please see Open Positions for more details!
